UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSD & More: Find Your Best UC Fit For Your Teen
Join us on Tuesday, March 31 at 5:00 PM PT / 8:00 PM ET, where we break down the key differences between UCLA, UCSD, and the rest of the UC system to determine which school is the best fit for your student.
Ideal for families with teens in grades 7-11.
How to Choose the Right UC Campuses and Boost Your Teen's Admissions Odds
The UC system offers incredible opportunities, but with 9 campuses, rising competition, and more students applying than ever before, which UCs actually make the most sense for your teen’s future?
In recent years, the UC system has received over 250,000 freshman applications each year, making admissions more competitive across nearly every campus. With different admissions priorities and selectivity levels at each school, it can be difficult for families to know where their student may be the best fit.
In this exclusive webinar, former UC admissions officers, Joel and Charles, will give you an inside look at the UC system and exactly what families need to know before applying.
You’ll discover:
- How schools like UCLA, UCSD, and UC Santa Cruz differ in selectivity, campus culture, and unique opportunities.
- The factors UC admissions officers weigh most, and why the same profile can look stronger to one campus vs. another.
- A proven framework to build a balanced UC list that aligns with your teen’s strengths and long-term goals.

Joel Ontiveros
Former UCLA Assistant Director of Admission
Joel Ontiveros has been reading UC applications for eight years. He attended UCLA and got his first job out of college working as an Admissions Officer and then as an Assistant Director for his alma mater. Eventually he joined the Banana Slugs at UC Santa Cruz where he worked as a Regional Admissions Representative and primarily recruited out of state. Joel was pleasantly surprised to find out that UCLA (the most applied to university in the country) actually has humans read every application at least twice. He believes in the transformative power of the UC system - even with all its quirks and issues.
Charles Lu
Former Director at UC San Diego, Associate Dean at Johns Hopkins University, and Executive Director at the University of Texas at Austin
Charles has led nationally recognized student success programs and reviewed thousands of applications at institutions including Johns Hopkins, UC San Diego, and UT Austin. A first-generation college student himself, he brings both professional expertise and personal perspective to his counseling. His students have gone on to schools such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford, MIT, Columbia, and UC Berkeley, and he has particular strength in guiding multilingual, multicultural, and first-generation students, as well as those pursuing STEM, pre-health, and research-focused paths. An avid traveler who has explored over 20 countries, Charles is also the co-founder of a nonprofit supporting first-generation students.
